CMS lowers estimates for MIPS compliance requirements

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has delivered notices to more than 800,000 healthcare providers, notifying them that they do not have to comply with the Merit-based Incentive Pay- ment System (MIPS) in 2017, according to a Modern Healthcare report.

Previously, CMS estimated that as many as 642,000 doctors would be required to comply with MIPS. CMS then lowered that number to

418,849. With MIPS, payments are based on a collection of quality measures such as resource use and clinical practice improvements, and the use of electronic health records (EHRs).

Physicians can determine whether they are exempt from MIPS this year by visiting the CMS Quality Program website: HTTPS://QPP.CMS.GOV.
